We are able-bodied seamen aboard Kelpie, well trained and extensively experienced. Crew are part of a drug consortium, complying to random testing anywhere in the world, and safety drills are conducted constantly to ensure seemless reaction among all crew members.
Shannon Carleton is Kelpie’s skipper, having operated and lived on boats most of her life. She learned the art of traditional sailing on the 1929 gaff- rigged schooner Harvey Gamage, sailing 1900 miles from Dominica to Greenport as a student with Ocean Classroom in 2001. Having sailed as first mate for the last 8 years aboard her former charter catamaran, Shannon has returned to her sailing roots with the acquisition of Kelpie – formally Kelpie of Falmouth- a traditional, gaff-rigged Harvey Gamage schooner. She holds a 100 ton USCG masters license for Inspected vessels on international voyages, having extensive training in fire-fighting, life-saving, crowd control and crisis management by U.S. Coast Guard certified schools.
Jodi Topping has sailed beside Shannon for 18 years, having met as shipmates aboard the Harvey Gamage. She assumes the important role as first mate aboard Kelpie and chief stewardess during the charter season and is deeply adored by our guests.
Therese Mørken, when not making a guest appearance as second mate and steward, can usually be found sailing across the Atlantic to meet the Kelpie crew at an island in the French Caribbean.
Stay tuned for an introduction to our newest crew member!
Once we’ve cast off, our primary focus is on the sailing, where seamless communication among the crew assures both the safety of all and allows for gracious attention to the guests.
