Command at Sea is an immersive executive development experience aboard Kelpie, a 1928 gaff-rigged schooner based in Sag Harbor. A Personal Lineage of Seamanship
Kelpie‘s Command at Sea experience is deeply personal.
While Captain Shannon Carleton has been a mariner her entire life, it was during her college years- sailing in the internationally respected Seamester program- that her relationship to seamanship truly crystalized. Living and learning aboard a traditional gaff-rigged schooner, she and one of her current crew me best, Jodi, were trained in old-world sailing disciplines: responsibility carried through the hands, respect for craft, mastery through repetition, and leadership shaped by consequence rather than theory.
It was during that voyage that Shannon knew one day she would own her own gaff-rigged schooner; not simply as a vessel, but as a platform for teaching, stewardship, and meaningful human development.
Today, Kelpie carries that lineage forward.
